Next Level Yoga Practice
At 14 years old I was diagnosed with scoliosis during a routine health screening at school. Throughout the years following, mid to low back pain became an ongoing issue. As a hairstylist in my twenties, standing up for hours at a time on a concrete floor with minimal support led to excruciating back pain due to the compression of the spinal vertebrae. It was during this time I realized I needed to find relief.
I began my search for reprieve and natural healing for the pain I tolerated daily. I was unable to lie down, stand or even sit for extended periods of time without experiencing some sort of discomfort. At times my back pain would cause me to wake up from sleeping, unable to find comfort and go back to sleep. During this time I started seeing a chiropractor, however I did not remain consistent with the care. To be honest, I thought it was a scam having to see the chiropractor 2-3 times a week for at least 6 weeks. Keep reading and you’ll see why I was wrong.
While learning about the anatomy and physiology of the human body years later in massage school, I began assessing myself as a patient. This newfound knowledge and awareness guided me to yoga as a way to take control and be proactive in my healing process.
However, although I enjoyed practicing yoga, indoor cycling was my thing at the time. It made me feel good, but after realizing the postural misalignment cycling can cause on the neck, shoulders, and back, I decided to focus more on yoga. With consistent practice, I began to notice results. As I became more aware of the needs of my body, and more in-tune to the subtleties it was communicating to me, I found I really appreciated the feedback my body was providing with each vinyasa, and each breath before, during and after practice. It wasn’t until I fell down several flights of stairs at home, that I began experiencing consistent neck and hip pain. I knew I had whiplash and that my hip pain was injured from the impact as well. The pain was probably compounded from years prior of being in two car accidents where I was hit from behind, and a trampoline injury where I attempted (and failed) at doing a backflip and landed on my neck.
When I learned about The 100 Year Lifestyle, and the importance of a healthy spine and nervous system, I decided to give chiropractic care another chance and not settle for the limitations and discomfort that had built up over time. Their office was located in the same building as Nava Sen Spa (the massage studio that I work at).
Not only did I appreciate the wisdom, science and expertise, the purpose and benefits of chiropractic care became increasingly clear to me. I should have paid more attention early as I pleasantly surprised how much it resonated with me. After only a few adjustments, and now with Lifestyle Care, I continue to notice:
- A decrease in overall neck and hip pain
- No more numbness or tingling down my arm in certain yoga poses
- More flexibility in my upper and low back
- My hips adjust naturally
- More openness in my chest doing heart openers
- Greater lung capacity
- Increase in flexion during backbends
- More awareness of the subtle energies within my body
- More ease in spinal twists
- Greater energy flow between the energy centers (aka “chakras”) along the spine during meditation
- An increase in my desire to practice more
- More mental clarity, peace of mind and emotional stability
- Faster recovery in Savasana
- Better alignment in yoga poses
- An increase in desire to consume better, healthier food
With these observations, I’ve decided that living my 100 Year Lifestyle is important to me and chiropractic care is one of the greatest investments for my health I could make. I wish I would have found this sooner! Now, I look forward to my adjustments and my body craves optimum alignment and healthy nerve supply! My 17 year old son, a high level high school basketball player, has had phenomenal results as well, healing quickly from a knee injury and getting back on the court quickly. He hasn’t had any issues, pain or swelling since getting started with care.
I am excited to continue exploring and discovering the many health benefits of practicing yoga supported by chiropractic care for many years to come. I no longer suffer from scoliosis, and I’m beyond grateful. Thank you to The 100 Year Lifestyle message and the education about the importantce of chiropractic care!! Not only am I pain-free, I’m a better yogi too!

A Happy Birthday Message
On September 18th, Chiropractic celebrates another birthday since its founding in 1895 by DD Palmer, DC. Over 100 years ago Palmer asked this important question that sparked a new profession: “I desired to know why one person was ailing and his associate, eating at the same table, working in the same shop, at the same bench was not. Why? What difference was there in these two persons that caused one to have various diseases, while his partner escaped?”
This question is just as important for you and your family today. There is so much toxicity in the air, food and water that we consume. Chemtrails mark the skies, genetically modified foods are sold in our stores, and the quality of our water supply is so poor that the bottled water industry generates $11 billion a year.
How resistant are you to all of these toxins in the environment? How capable is your body of resisting the stress from the negative forces all around us? What is the answer to DD Palmer’s question?
Without a doubt, one important part of the answer is that your body must be able to adapt in a healthy way to your surroundings. The system within your body that controls and coordinates every function of your body and adapts you to your environment is your nervous system.
Healthy nerve supply is essential for a healthy life. Your brain consists of 100 billion neurons and sends messages at 325 mph over 45 miles of nerves within your body. This highly sophisticated and coordinated network is the Information Technology (IT) super highway that must be functioning properly for your body to appropriately adapt to your environment. Cut off this system completely and your cells, tissues and organ systems will die. Interfere with this system and your body cannot function the way that it is supposed to. Your internal adaptation mechanisms become weak.
Vertebral subluxation is a condition that happens in the spine and nervous system when it is injured from the birth process, childhood falls, accidents, or stress of any kind. Because your natural IT system can be affected by this condition, it can result in immediate symptoms and mimic any diagnosis or it can lie dormant and asymptomatic for decades leading to many types of health problems in the future. If you truly want to strengthen your body’s ability to adapt, you must make the correction and elimination of this condition a priority – before it leads to problems.
Certainly, healthy non-toxic food is an important and healthy choice. Exercise to keep your body fit and strong will build your confidence, increase your resistance, and help prevent some health problems. However, without a healthy spine and nervous system, the food and the fitness cannot be assimilated properly. Dr. Palmer was correct and the profession he founded lives on over 100 years later and counting. Isn’t it time that you make the health of your spine and nervous system a priority and schedule your next chiropractic checkup?
Make the health of your spine and nervous system a priority. Make good choices across the board. Live The 100 Year Lifestyle and enjoy a sensational century.

Our Health Care Philosophy
We believe that everyone deserves to be healthy and express their full potential from the time they are born through their last breath of life. This includes you!
This is the Health Care Philosophy of The 100 Year Lifestyle:
1. Innate Intelligence
You have within you an innate intelligence. Present from the moment you were conceived, this intelligence guides the processes in your body that turn food into cells, eliminates waste products, coordinates muscle contraction and communicates with or without your conscious thought to every cell, tissue and organ of your body via your nervous system.
As long as there is no interference to this system, you have the capability to heal, feel great, be healthy and function well for a lifetime.
Nurture this intelligence for the development of your human potential and you will set personal records in all areas of your life.
2. Interference
There can be interference to the communication and expression of this intelligence. This interference causes dis-ease,disharmony, weakness, and imbalances within your nervous system that can cause all types of immediate health problems. Sometimes, this interference can lie dormant and asymptomatic for decades leading to severe health conditions, chronic pain, deterioration and disease down the road.
Nerve interference can occur in the brain or the spine which can be caused by vertebral subluxation.
Lifestyle interference is a result of poor health habits such as overeating, poor nutrition, excessive drinking, taking prescription or non-prescription drugs, or sitting too much.
Environmental interference is caused by toxicity from air, food, water, or chemicals, as well as accidents or natural disasters. All three types of interference can cause interference within your spine and nervous system and affect your health on every level.
3. Adjustments
Remove the interference from your body through adjustments to your environment, lifestyle, spine and nervous system so that your body can heal itself and function at optimum health and peak performance levels for a lifetime.
Our office specializes in removing interference to your spine and nervous system while providing you with information to optimize your health and quality of life.
